Choir
Choral music tends to be my favorite type of music to record and listen to. There are many varying techniques depending on the room acoustics, group talent, and musical choices....I enjoy the challenge.
M.S.U. Children's Choir
Directed by Mary Alice Stollak, the choir is the recipient of a few Grammy awards for a work they did with some University of Michigan folk. My work with them has been in other recording sessions for various projects and live concerts. Some sessions have been used as samples to sell Mrs. Stollak line in the Santa Barbara Music Publishing company.
thoughts
I don’t even know where to start with this one, but probably not the best situation for a good recording. It started by not finding the place (Hawk Hollow Banquet Center) because nothing was illuminated in a dark area of Lansing…so I wooshed right by it. Once in, I met an interesting audio guy; gotta love the knowledgeable people in the industry. I also saw a lot of people I did not expect to see, always a positive thing.
The best approach in these situations is an easy setup with good clean and clear sound. Mics that work well in bad halls are great - usually they are not bright, very directional and can take a bit of a beating. Rig a short-run, hit record and go for the desert bar.
