7-29-07 Banff Festival Orchestra
thoughts
I would compare recording orchestra in a dinning room to driving a car on macaroni and cheese instead of gas. Just doesn’t work, and I am not entirely sure why the Centre would put a good group in a place like that. Luckily, experience recording orchestra in another totally dead room in Calgary seemed to be worth something. As usual, spaced pairs of omnis with outriggers and a few highlights. Started with Schoeps in the middle, but didn’t like it, so we switched to DPAs center and Schoeps outriggers and was happy. Conductor Lior Shambadal was great… 6 days and I think this young group played better than the L.S.O. back in Michigan.
The super-duper dry mix was taken back to the studio and dubbed with a little TC 6000 verb. Oh, its so nice and pretty now.
