thoughts

Though it took 3 previous attempts, this was the ‘infamous’ converter test between a Meitner, Lavry, Digi 002, Radar, and a 15’ G4 Powerbook line input all recording 44/24 a simple stereo mix of a chamber concert.  Signal was split twice from the output of one bus of the Studer for the Meitner and Lavry then recorded to Pyramix.  Three splits were made from the second bus of the Studer to the 002, Radar and Powerbook (in different locations).

I have not had a chance to listen to them yet, and will post something about the experiment when I do.

The reason for this experiment was my desire to compare the differences between almost $4,000 gear and possibly $1.00 converters.  While I would not doubt there is a mathematical difference, my concern is always if it is audible enough to spend that sort of money.  Is it practical?  Will it improve my recordings in the clients ears?  Or is this simply something heard because it is seen?
