Chamber
Classical music group - Quartets, Quintets, duets, solos.... you name it. Anything regarded as classical music smaller than an orchestra.
Ensembles & Recitals
Concert recordings intended for archive, broadcast or other use. Projects range from simple live-to-2 track with a stereo pair, to larger multitrack projects with some being taken through mastering and duplication.
The Banff Centre
Located in Alberta, Canada deep in the Canadian Rockies, the Centre hosts music, art, and many other programs in addition to audio.
Surround
Recordings I have taken from existing multitracks and re-mixed in Protools or Pyramix or were recorded with a surround rig.
thoughts
So the piano program is done, now what? More chamber groups, including quartets, quintets, and some string ensembles....and another Strass setup by Peter. We also tried the previous night’s surround idea of placing microphones behind the baffles.
One of the pieces isn’t quite as good (recording-wise) as it could have been due to a conductor. While I do come from the view that technology such as microphones and hardware should be minimal visually, this is a recording program and a great feature is having an ability, a freedom to place microphones where we like to. Though not to rant, but the conductor seemed annoyed we were even there....
As for the audio sample, I really have to point much of the credit to Peter Rosner for the ideas and placement. I used the multitrack recording to make a slightly different mix from the one made live.
